Blog: Privacy
I've always learned that what you put online will never go away and will haunt you forever. As we move more into a technological age, confidentiality and privacy will become even more important. What you post online and what you have on your computer is essentially data that you do not want to get leaked. As people have more of an online presence, I believe that it is easier for someone to target you and to steal your information. According to an article by the Washington Post, the University of Maryland had a security breach where over 300,000 identities were exposed to hackers. This is something that should not have happened especially with the security that any university has. It is scary to consider the capabilities of these hackers and the possibility of someone stealing your information that you have on the internet. Examples of new media has to do with social media platforms as well and not being able to guarantee that your information stays safe is actually very scary. Identity theft is something that happened to someone in my household as well and even though he/she had very limited information on the internet it still happened. This tells me that you may think that privacy and confidentiality are secure, but you never really know that can happen or who is looking at your information.

Hi Joseph,
ReplyDeleteWhat you wrote about privacy was really similar to how I view privacy in the digital age. I know I remember being told since a young age that what we post online never goes away. It can be easy to forget this when we use our social media but like you mentioned that information can be easily hacked or leaked. Since our information will always be out there we have to be more careful to avoid something as serious as identity theft.
